Google Gemini is recording your conversations to improve the model. Users are offered the option to turn off the history if they wish. However, it has been revealed that Google still stores certain conversation data for up to three years even when this setting is disabled.
The stored data includes device and account information, language preferences, and user location data. The tech giant believes that continuous data collection is necessary to train and improve the language model. However, experts argue that this poses a privacy risk.
One of the biggest concerns arises from the personal details shared during conversations. Gemini could potentially expose personal details in its responses based on this data, leading to the potential leakage of individual data.
Moreover, using data from users with different worldviews poses a significant risk. While Google aims to be sensitive in this regard, Gemini could eventually start supporting discriminatory views over time.
Google acknowledges that it stores user data in a controlled manner and uses it for model training. However, the vast trove of personal information it collects also increases the risks of data breaches.
